Largest Bulk Food-Grade Carrier Embraces Aperia’s Halo to Drive Safety and Performance
Foodliner®, the nation’s largest bulk food-grade carrier and a Transport Topics Top 100 carrier, operates more than 1,200 trucks and 2,700 trailers across North America. Foodliner, recognized for its gleaming stainless-steel tanks, open communication, and unwavering reliability, has built a strong reputation for delivering safely and on time.
For a fleet of this scale, maintaining consistency in performance and safety is a top priority. That’s why Foodliner turned to Aperia Technologies’ Halo Tire Management solutions.
Putting Halo to the Test
In June 2024, Foodliner launched a six-month pilot of Aperia’s Halo® Tire Inflator paired with Halo Connect® predictive analytics on its trucks and trailers. The goal was simple: reduce costly and disruptive tire failures.
To measure success, the team compared tire failures and delivery performance with the same six-month period from the previous year. The results speak volumes: tire failures were reduced by 50% during the pilot. “We know the price of tires never goes down, so any technology that reduces failures and extends tire life has real value,” said Tyler Neumann, Director of Corporate Maintenance at Foodliner.

“During our pilot period, I wondered whether the fantastic performance was just a honeymoon phase. But now, more than a year-and-a-half later, our experience is just as positive.”
Tyler Neumann, Director of Corporate Maintenance
Results that Resonate
Following the pilot, Foodliner began outfitting both trucks and trailers with Halo Tire Inflators and Halo Connect predictive analytics. For trailers already equipped with a central tire inflation product, Foodliner added Halo Connect, integrating predictive insights across the fleet.
Foodliner has seen measurable improvements in safety, efficiency, and sustainability with:
- 50% reduction in tire failures
- 95% of new trips starting with all tires optimally inflated
- 14% tire life extension
- 1.53% MPG improvement
- -3.8 tons of CO₂ emitted per truck annually
- Tire-related issues dropped completely out of top five CVSA violations
“Halo Connect predictive analytics for trucks and trailers is a game changer,” Tyler emphasized. “The actionable insights, early alerts, and customizable reporting allow us to get ahead of tire issues and resolve them before they can impact operations.”
Advantage Across the Fleet
Foodliner has fully embraced Aperia’s Halo technology with different roles across the organization experiencing unique benefits:
- 24/7 Operations Team – Foodliner’s around-the-clock operations staff uses the Halo Connect portal to monitor tire health across the fleet. Halo Connect not only identifies tire issues early but also provides recommended actions. The operations team uses this intelligence to coordinate service proactively with drivers, ensuring problems are resolved before they escalate into costly or dangerous roadside breakdowns. By catching issues early, the team keeps drivers safe and deliveries on schedule.
- Drivers – For Foodliner’s drivers, Halo Connect is a time-saving, confidence-boosting tool. Instead of spending extra minutes walking around their equipment and manually checking every tire, they simply scan a code on the doorjamb to view current pressure readings. The Halo Drive® app streamlines tire pre-trip inspections, helping them start their day with peace of mind and reinforcing Foodliner’s reputation for reliability.
- Maintenance Technicians – Foodliner’s technicians appreciate the compact design of the Halo, which allows for smooth tire replacements without having to remove the device. In the yard, the Halo Tech® App transforms their workflow: instead of walking from truck to truck in search of problems, the app highlights exactly which units need attention. This efficiency reduces guesswork and ensures technicians can focus their time where it matters most.
- Maintenance Leadership – As director of corporate maintenance, Neumann values the balance between simplicity and intelligence. He doesn’t need to log into the Halo Connect portal every day. Instead, actionable alerts go straight to his email, giving him confidence that issues are being handled in real time. “The ease of use paired with the intelligence provided is my favorite part,” he said. These alerts enable him to lead his team in resolving tire issues efficiently, confidently, and swiftly.
Partnership that Matters
Foodliner was the first fleet to roll out Aperia’s latest inflation system with integrated sensors for combined pressure optimization and predictive analytics. They’ve leveraged customization features for alerts and reporting to align the system with their workflows.
Unlike other systems that overwhelm fleets with constant notifications, Aperia’s approach is different. The Halo automatically resolves the vast majority of pressure issues and only alerts Foodliner when a problem truly requires human intervention. Those alerts are delivered early and only when necessary. This gives Foodliner’s team the chance to act before an issue disrupts operations, without drowning them in unnecessary noise.
Foodliner customizes alerts by issue type and urgency. Critical alerts are escalated immediately to operations, while less urgent items are filtered or grouped so they reach the right people at the right time. This ensures that drivers, technicians, and leadership each receive actionable information tailored to their role, creating efficiency and clarity without distraction.
Tyler emphasizes that having a knowledgeable and responsive partner has made adoption seamless: “Aperia’s team is highly supportive and knowledgeable. They are quick to respond and clearly care about our input–all the while working closely with us to develop solutions that meet our needs.”
Moving Forward
With Halo Tire Management solutions embedded in their operations, Foodliner continues to raise the bar for performance, safety, and sustainability in the bulk food transportation industry. They’ve reduced roadside failures, eliminated tire-related violations, extended tire life, and cut fuel consumption and emissions. Foodliner is proving every day that with the right technology partnership, fleets can deliver superior results while keeping America’s food supply moving on time.
