According to ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council and FleetNet America Vertical Benchmarking Program, tires remain the most frequently repaired component in a fleet for a third straight year. With the average repair cost of over $1,000 per incident, the study highlights how a little prevention in tire maintenance goes a long way. Strategic maintenance is more important than ever while managing truck scarcity challenges.
Of fleets surveyed, those managing tire pressure through automatic tire inflation systems go two times as far between tire-related maintenance events than those who do not. This data point highlights not only the savings proactive fleets generate in the way of uptime, but also the ability of these fleet technicians to shift their focus to higher-value maintenance tasks.
As fuel and raw material costs continue to rise, truck demand remains steady.
With backlogs largely full for the year, many OEM’s have yet to open their order boards for 2023, which has prompted operators to hold on to their existing vehicles longer. And because technicians are increasingly hard to find, opportunities to control maintenance costs have taken center stage.
